Bike and vehicle safety Tech

App

Strip designer

This is an app designed to help students write a story. Specifically writing a comic strip. I think this app would be good for students who struggle with writing. This would allow them to be able to participate in writing class without having to write a lot. They would be able to tell a story without having to write a lot. I also think this app would be a great way to encourage creativity in students and help them see that writing can be a fun process.  I would use this app to have students to write a story about bike safety or automobile safety. This app is easy for students to work and they are able to import pictures both from the devices camera and from the internet. They are then able to use a template to turn those pictures and their captions into a comic strip. They can export their comics as a PDF which can be printed. This app does cost a bit.

  • Internet resource for students
    • Tales of the road
    • I liked this website because in addition to talking about safety while biking it talked about how to keep your bike in tip top shape. It also had fun activities that were directly related to bike safety rather than simply tangential like some websites. It also has sections on other road safety such as crossing the road.
    • WAHES h1.sa1.2b Describe Bicycle pedestrian and transportation safety rules.
      • HBO3 Use safety equipment appropriately and correctly.
    • Core Integration
      • I would integrate this into language arts. I would introduce some of the safety texts they have on the websites as informational texts. I would then ask the children to find the purpose of the texts. I would then give them website if they want to explore more on their own at home.
      • ELA-LITERACY.RI.2.6
Identify the main purpose of a text, including what the author wants to answer, explain, or describe.
    • Tales of the road
  • Internet resource for Teachers.
    • Classroom KidsHealth
    • I liked this website because it had groups of activities to do. For Bike safety it had 2 handouts, a teacher guide, and a quiz. I liked that it had everything you would need to put together a lesson on bike safety or a myriad of other topics. It also had the lessons grouped on age.
    • Core Integration
      • I would most likely use these as stand along lessons or as a formative assessment for lessons on safety.
    • Kidshealth
  • Internet resource for Parents
    • gov
    • It had some simple activities that parents could do with their kids to help teach them about bike safety. I liked this site because it had fun activities grouped by age. I would introduce this on my class website. I would have a list of resources to help with things we are learning about that week and I would have this site listed there.
