General Information:
- The Bully Project http://www.thebullyproject.com/parents
- There is a lot of advice to parents on how to help their children deal with bullying and how to take action against bullying. There is a document on the website that lists ways parents can take action, like setting an example by showing empathy and kindness, setting boundaries, being consistent when addressing problems and making sure they know the warning signs of emotional health issues. At the bottom of the website is also a link (Parent Action Toolkit) that describes ways parents can talk to their children about bullying and also address the school about bullying situations. This section is very helpful because it has categories on how to talk about bullying with all different age groups. The website also address cyperbullying and how to handle that type of situation.
- We would introduce this resource to the parents of our students at the welcome back to school night during the first week in which parents come to meet the teachers. The goal would be to simply attract their attention to the website and the resources it offers. After the first week, we might send home a newsletter reminding parents of the resources we mentioned at the welcome back to school night and finally we would have a parents tab on our classroom website and we would have a link for parents to have easy access to the bully project website.
