Healthy Environment: Teachers Preventing Bullying 3-5

General Information:

This website has a ton of different resources for teachers. Bullying is a large issue in the classroom and so it is critical for teachers to be knowledgeable as well have a plan to integrate lesson plans addressing bullying. The website also has activities to do in the classroom, a list resources for educators about bullying and quizzes that educators can give to their students to check for understanding. ,

Core Integration:

This topic could be turned into a writing assignment in a language arts class. If I was teaching a language arts class and we had a bullying segment I might do an anonymous freewrite in which my students would have five minutes to write about and experience in which they felt bullied, were a bystander of bullying or were the bully. This, as a teacher would give me an insight as to what kinds of experiences my students are having and would help me be able to recognize situations in which I could intervene. An extension of this project might be to go through the freewrites and then the next day pick a couple and share them with the class and have them brainstorm ways in which the bullying could have been avoided or how bystanders could have stepped in to help etc. (If this extension seems too personal, the instructor could create a worksheet inspired by some of the situations from the freewrite. The students could then work individually to identify if the situation feels like bullying and what would be some possible ways to eliminate the bullying.
