Summary
This interactive App provides gaming features intertwined with health education. Students of grades K-2nd can participate in understanding dental hygiene practices. The purpose of the App is to captivate students by giving them the responsibility to choose healthy food choices, and dental habits such as floss, brush and rinse for their ChomperChum character. These practices are to not only keeping the life of a digital character but also enables the child to learn healthy habits that carry over in their lives.
Below are images of screenshots from the App being used.
Students can keep track of their app coin earnings and the time spent flossing and brushing in a weekly chart to incorporate a math learning aspect. They could add up their total times and compare them week by week. Students could add up their coins and mark off “purchases” with their coins on the app for items that can be found in the store. This would be an intriguing way for students to use addition and subtraction in a very applicable way. Younger students could have physical plastic or paper coins that they could use and “trade-in” when they make purchases. This provides an introduction to the concept of money.
