• General Information:
  • This site is a very helpful and informative site in regards to teaching personal hygiene to middle school aged students. We feel that this site is the best for our topic of personal hygiene as it contains a very clear and accurate lesson plan. This lesson plan includes common core standards, key vocabulary terms, learning objectives, materials and a detailed list of instructions for how to conduct this lesson.
• Core Integration:
  • CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RST.6-8.4
    • Determine the meaning of symbols, key terms, and other domain-specific words and phrases as they are used in a specific scientific or technical context relevant to grades 6-8 texts and topics.
    • This common core standard fits in well with this lesson plan. This lesson incorporates a variety of vocabulary words that are both entirely new words as well as words that need further explanation and learning. Students need to be able to read text, keeping in mind the key vocabulary words which are related to the subject. This will help them to enhance their learning. In order to do this, reading on the subject as well as activity sheets in which students must define the words will be given to all the students.
• Standards:
  • NEHS 1: Students will be able to explain and identify key attributes to proper hygiene care.
    • PHW1.8.1 –  summarize the benefits of good hygiene practices for promoting health and maintaining positive social relationships
  • NEHS 3: Students will be able to explain and identify how to access information, products and services that are related to proper hygiene.
