What is it about?

This film is about being the best you and not using drugs or abusing alcohol. The film talks about respecting yourself and others, being responsible, has a police officer talk about how abusing drugs/alcohol is bad, and encourages the viewer to think about their choices to make the right choice.

Why is this the best choice…..

I thought that this film was the best choice because it was like a cartoon that students would watch. This would catch and keep their attention because of the animation, colors, and catchy tunes. I also think that this film presented information about preventing drug/alcohol abuse in a very kid friendly way that was positive and didn’t use negative or scare tactics. The film explained things like what alcohol and drugs do to a person with great visuals and an explanation that kids can understand. This film is age appropriate for grades 3-5. I liked that they had an actual police officer talking in the video. I think that students tend to be more attentive when an officer comes in and teaches them something like this.

Video Snippet

This video is short so I would recommend showing the whole film to the class.

Core Integration:

I would include this video when talking about making healthy choices when it comes to drugs/alcohol. This video mostly is about making good choices to be the best you when it comes to drugs/alcohol. After watching this video I would lead a class discussion about making healthy choices. I might also have the students do role playing where they are given a scenario and use what they have learned from other lessons and this video to appropriately respond. This will give them tools they can use to prevent themselves from using and abusing drugs/alcohol

Doing this would have students working with speaking and listening standards by participating in a collaborative conversation/discussion.
