Summary: Fooducate is an app developed for all ages to help achieve food related health goals. While this app is not marketed towards children I think children can still have a lot of fun scanning food items to learn about their contents. The app has a fitness tracker, community, healthy recipes, and healthy living tips, but what it is most known for is its food finder. You use the camera embedded in the device to scan a food item, the app analyzes the nutrition information and gives the food a letter grade A – D. It gives an explanation for the grade and provides healthier
alternatives.

Demonstration of App: For a brief demonstration of the app watch from 1:30 –
2:30.

Core Integration:  This app would integrate nicely to a math lesson where students are practicing using money. If students are able to practice “going to the grocery store” they will be able to utilize the Fooducate tool and practice buying food in real life. This would be a great tool to emphasize the importance of making healthy choices and creating a safe environment to make a mistake. This lesson would be best suited during a center time or stations. Students could work independently or with a partner to try and decide what they should buy at the grocery store. If children are given the opportunity to practice buying healthy foods and understanding that it can be affordable to eat healthy. For this activity, I would use food cards with prices already stamped on them. Students would be tasked with spending X amount of dollars at the grocery store while ensuring they are getting all nutritious food as directed on MyPlate. This will allow students to exert some independence and show what they have learned about food groups. At the same time, there is an important lesson money-handling.
