Student Internet Resource: Personal Hygiene- K-2

K-2 Health

Why this is the best resource for students:

The reason this is the best website is because it provides age appropriate games specific to multiple areas of health. Our overall topic is personal hygiene, which three of the six games relate specifically to. The other three games indirectly relate, which allows students to explore personal hygiene as well as related issues. It would make an excellent in-class activity when students have some time to fill, so they could learn but also have their choice of game. Additionally, the games have simple controls that are appropriate for students in the age range of K-2.

Core Integration:

The core area this relates to is Science. By playing Super Duper Antibodies, students will be able to learn about germs, cells, and how they function. Through Doctor Daniel, they will learn how the doctor teaches you to take care of yourself and why that’s important. Dream On teaches students about clean and healthy food choices. Additionally, the other three games teach about emotions and how they relate to our health, our body and it’s function, as well as the different food groups and a balanced diet.

An activity we might do for this would be a “Cross the line” activity where students would be able to answer questions through movement rather than writing or spoken language. The questions would be things like “Cross the line if health is a part of science”, “Cross the line if germs are cells”, “Cross the line if washing your hands can stop germs from spreading”, “Cross the line if the doctor helps you maintain good habits”, or “Cross the line if having clean, healthy food is important”. By doing this sort of activity, you would be able to see if a student understood the health and science impact simply through their movement.
