Documentary: Fat Head
General Info:
- This documentary came out in 2009 and was written and directed by Tom Naughton. It is one hour and 44 minutes and not rated.
- Naughton wrote and directed this documentary to teach a younger audience what he wished he knew about the truth of the obesity epidemic. Naughton uses comedy and cartoons to educate his audience about what the truth about obesity and the effects of fast food.
Core Integration:
- This documentary can be paired with the nonfiction book Fat Head Kids. These two paired together would fit into a health or science lesson since it goes in depth about how fast food actually affects our bodies. Since the topic of obesity is very sensitive, this is a very lighthearted way to teach students the truths about each diet.
- After reading and watching Fat Head, students can discuss or fill out a worksheet about what they initially thought about diets and if it was true or false and what they learned was true.
- After discussing what we learned from the documentary, we can discuss how diet and physical activity go hand and hand and how each is very essential to living a healthy life.
