3rd Grade Preventing Obesity- Integrated Internet Resources for Students

  1. Resource for Students: go noodle 

General Information:  

GoNoodle is a website for students that includes interactive videos to get kids up and moving in the class. It has videos that are just for getting some exercise in such as “Flow” a calming yoga like video for strategies kids can use when they are tense and unfocused. They also have videos for teaching and practicing subjects. Some include sing along/dance along for introducing new topics and some lead the class in interactive study sessions. We would utilize this for fun transitions into the next subject (I.e a song about math to introduce a new unit) or to give them a brain break with physical activity that is still school related and appropriate. 

Core Integration: 

We would implement this site as introductions to units, for fun related activities to the topic after an information heavy lesson, and as a study tool to encourage retention. We thought we could include an introduction to the videos by having a class discussion about how the videos help our mind and body and why this exercise is so important for our heart, body, and mind and in what way the videos are keeping us active. The main video we are focusing on is a math dance video on greater, less than, and equal to signs.

NHES:

  • Describe how relevant influences of school and community affect personal physical activity practices and behaviors. 
  • Describe characteristics or appropriate and reliable physical activity services.
  • Describe physical activity practices and behaviors that reduce or prevent health  risks. 

Math Standards:

  • Compare two fractions with the same numerator or the same denominator by reasoning about their size. Recognize that comparisons are valid only when the two fractions refer to the same whole. Record the results of comparisons with the symbols >, =, or <, and justify the conclusions.
