Best Documentary Film: “Be Safe Mates”: Recess Safety
Title– “Be Safe Mates: Playground Safety”
Producer: ChildrensOmaha
Year: April 18th 2011
Rating: G
A lot of the videos I found for recess safety were targeted at a much younger audience often very childish; I did however find a National Playground Protection Safety video but it needed to be bought within a package. This one was informative and engaging to my higher aged audience. I found it to break down areas of safety very well.
Review: It discusses various aspects of playground safety such as: liter, under playground surface, broken equipment, barriers, weather safety, safety protection equipment, etc.. By walking through steps as well as analyzing a playground together we find various safety risks and tips for complete playground safety.
Core Integration
I would integrate this into my classroom by having my staff as well as students take the Recess Check Up Lab. This will help them to analyze their current playground safety strengths and areas of improvement. Then I would allow students to get in groups (staff as well) and make a chart with our information. This willow for more visual representation of our data and help students interpret visual information.
