Mental and Emotional Health (grade 7): Stress and Anxiety
o For Kids
Mental Health Delta Division
General Information
This website is an interactive site that helps educate students on mental and emotional health. It is a very simple layout which is easy to navigate. I can see this being used as a class activity where we go to the computer lab and they do some sort of project on whichever they had chosen, or as a homework assignment they do on their own time, and if they liked it they could look at it for fun but I wouldn’t expect the third option to happen very often. This site includes all topics that are applicable to their current lives and things they might be struggling in or curious to know more about.
Core Integration
This website could be integrated into writing by assigning the students to write an explanatory/informative text to their peers about what they learned and how it can be applied to their lives.
Standards:
NHES – H1. So6.7a: Identify different emotional and mental and behavioral health disorders”
CCSS – W.7.2: Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas, concepts, and information through the selection, organization, and analysis of relevant content.
o For Teachers
Share My Lesson
General Information
This website includes all kinds of lesson plans for every subject there is. One of these subjects includes “Health” and a topic under that subject you can choose is “Mental, Emotional, and Social Health”. Now that we have been able to narrow our search a lot, we can see all kinds of lesson plans pertaining to that topic and on the left, there are choices for the grade you want and even the core subject it is integrated with. I can choose a lesson plan for seventh grade English Language Arts. Finally, I am even able to narrow my search to a specific common core standard under that core subject for the grade and topic of my choice!
o For Parents
Mental Health
General Information
I chose this website for parents because it is full of information of all kinds of problems middle schoolers may be going through related to mental and emotional health. This site is not only educational but provides tons of resources as well as tips and guidance to help you talk with your child about these topics. I would introduce parents to this site in my parent letter and if a parent came to me with these concerns about their child or if I had those concerns about their child and contacted them. Overall it is a simple and easy-to-use resource for parents to get the help they need.
