Saved by the Bell‘s Explanation of the Consequences of Drinking and Driving
Title: Saved by the Bell- “Drinking and Driving” Season 6 Episode 5
Producer: Peter Engel

Length: 23 min
Rating: G
Description: A group of friends goes out to celebrate one of the friends, Lisa Homecoming Queen win with a house party. All the friends were underage drinking at the party and choose to drive home in Lisa’s mom’s car. The friends get into an accident and then try to cover it up with a lie to their parents. They get caught in their lie and have to live with the consequences. I thought this was the best popular film to show because it seems very relatable and has a light-hearted sense of humor. The show emphasizes that drinking and driving are not okay and the accident with the telephone poll could have been much worse.
Review: This TV show addresses my health topic because it brings awareness to the dangers of drinking and driving and how stupid it is and how it can cause accidents. I picked a TV show that relates really well to my health topic so that I did not have to do yet another follow-up assignment and the students could watch the show and just analyze the decision making and practice saying no to drinking and driving. As well as explaining the risk associated with this behavior and how they could support other from not doing this.
Core Integration
I would have the students fill out a worksheet during the movie. Then we would have a class discussion on what they got out of it and how what they saw. They would analyze how social media, media and technology influences could impact the perception on drunk driving.
I would ask questions like:
- Did you learn anything from this show? If you did, what was it?
- What is the message of this show? Do you agree or disagree with it?
- Was there something you didn’t understand about the show? What was that?
- How does this show relate to our unit?
I would provide a picture and word summary of the episode on this page.
