This documentary is a well recommended documentary on self-esteem as this video provides very simple terminology and concept of self-esteem that are easy for young students to understand. The video also includes graphics which not only gets the students interested, but also helps students to follow along with what the video is about.

The video divides the big topic of self-esteem into 3 smaller sub-umbrellas that are easier for students to understand. The video loosely addresses self-esteem in topics that are relatable for students at school or at home. As a teacher, I can further connect this to the students learning by having students do a writing activity of them writing something about themselves and their classmates.

Core Integration in the Classroom

This video would be integrated into the core topic of writing. A follow-up assignment after this video is for students to answer question about self-esteem and how they can help themselves if they feel like they are going through some type of challenge or struggle in their life, at home, or at school. A worksheet will be given, but a discussion will be lead after the worksheets are completed.

Sample Question:

  • What is self-esteem?
  • Have you ever been frustrated with yourself?
  • What did you do?
  • How can you handle this situation in a more positive way?
