General Information:
Choose My Plate is a great site for students to use because it has a lot to offer. Compared to other sites I looked at, this site offered more activities and resources overall. These included games, activity sheets, videos and songs just to name a few. The site also offered health resources for students’ families to explore. The site is easy to navigate, and is professionally presented with research-based information. Another benefit of the site is that it has translation options for several languages, which is great for students and families to access. I would use this site for students to play the games in their free time in the classroom, and I would link it on my classroom website for students to use at home and for their families to use as well.
Core Integration:
I could integrate the activities in this website into a writing lesson. I would have the students write an assignment about their favorite foods. Then I would have the students play a nutrition game on Choose My Plate, where they learn about healthy foods. After this they will do another short writing assignment where they write about foods or food groups they either want to try or want to eat more of, based on what they learned in the game. Because not all students can access healthy foods, I would set up a day where I brought in the foods they wrote about.
