Mental and Emotional Health (grade 7)
1. The best smart device application: Vent
• General Information:• Suped Pty Ltd ACN 165 010 346 (Vent, we, or us) owns and operates the application for use on mobile devices called “Vent”, Publicized in 2017, Version 6.19, it is a free app with some in-app purchases that are optional.
• Vent is an anonymous app allowing you to express your feelings similarly to a social media website, but specifically designed to build community around your feelings and to find people going through the same things as you and provide people to talk to about your problems. You have the options to post your feelings, react to other posts, talk privately with someone without them knowing any of your personal information, and also join smaller communities of people with similar issues.
• Core Integration:
• This can be a very personal app, so I would not encourage this to be used in class but rather as a topic for writing reviews. There would be multiple mental/emotional health apps provided and the students would have the choice of one app to write a review for. This review would include their own experience using it, how it might be helpful for people, who the app is the most beneficial for, downsides/disadvantages of the app, concerns they might have about the app, etc. The end goal is to provide lots of resources for the students to have outlets and safe places to go for dealing with their mental/emotional health.
• Standards:
• NHES 2: Students will analyze the influence of family, peers, culture, media, technology, and other factors on health behaviors.
• NHES 3: Students will demonstrate the ability to access valid information, products, and services to enhance health.
• W.7.1 – Write arguments to support claims with clear reasons and relevant evidence.
