  • Details:
  • This app is a mood tracker that allows for students to express how they feel using pictures, colors, and words. Students can click on the day of the week and one of the mood emojis (happy, sad, worried, etc.) to indicate what they are feeling. They will have the option of choosing a picture that describes how they feel or they can write it out in a note box. Once they have finished, Daylio will enter the information into the calendar and color code that day. Students can track how their moods fluctuate during the week.
  • This would be an excellent app to use in a classroom because it gives students the opportunity for self communication and self awareness. Students will also learn how to convey what they are feeling which can be extremely effective in social situations.

  • Core Integration:
    • Discuss how you would integrate this into a core topic. For some topics/resources this happens naturally.  For others, it may include a “follow up” assignment that provides this connection.
      • Daylio is set-up really well for integrating mathematics with the third grade standards. One of the standards for third grade is to be able to draw a picture graph and a scaled bar graph to represent data. For this lesson, students would track their moods for two weeks and transfer the data that they collected into picture and scaled bar graphs. With the consideration that moods and feelings may want to be kept private, it would be beneficial to provide journals and talk to class about personal choice and privacy. It is also important to talk about the importance of self-communication and self-awareness is. At the end of the lesson, students can turn in their journals to their teacher and have the option of not sharing their work.

  • Standards:

MEH 1.5.10 Describe the importance of being aware of one’s own feelings and

of being sensitive to the feelings of others.

HBO 1 -Express feelings in a healthy way

HBO 7- Show tolerance and acceptance of differences in others

HBO 8- Establish and maintain healthy relationships

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.MD.B.3– Draw a scaled picture graph and a scaled bar graph to represent a data set with several categories. Solve one- and two-step “how many more” and “how many less” problems using information presented in scaled bar graphs. For example, draw a bar graph in which each square in the bar graph might represent 5 pets.
