DNA extraction and qPCR conditions were as reported earlier except that cycle count was increased to 50. Two plates were run. Results indicate that a few sites yielded detectable abalone eDNA, specifically Utah and Gold in plate 2. Most interestingly, Utah 2m depth was actually a stronger signal than Utah 0m, with the 0m sample being taken adjacent to an abalone aggregation. This suggests that abalone eDNA can be detected at some distance from the animals themselves. Yet, some sites that should have theoretically had equally strong signals did not, such as Omaha, Baytown, and Dragoon.
