Destruction of The Ocean
The Polar ice caps melting as the sea levels rise
A World of flooded coastal Lands not hard to visualize
In the Artic in a decade from now there may not be a Polar Bear
So many species of birds and animals on the endangered list
and so many species rare
To combat Global warming I cannot say I’ve done my best
As an environmentally aware person I have not passed the test
Above the coastal city black smog lines in the sky
Of droughts and floods, storms, fires and famines no need to wonder why
The warnings of environmental disasters by Climate Change experts ‘would seem have been in vain
Why we only fear an economic downturn is beyond me to explain
The economy is built on Nature and when Nature is feeling ill
The economy will die a natural death our fate is Nature’s will
The World climate changing from north to southern shore
And we talk of the economy and Nature we ignore.

“The Polar Ice Caps Melting” Duggan, Franics, 12-10-2016, https://www.poemhunter.com/poem/the-political-blame-game-goes-on/#content
This is a poem written by Francis Duggan. This poem raises the concern of global warming and the ice caps melting, and us as a human race aren’t doing as much as we can to help. With the ice caps melting because of global warming many polar bears are either dying because of lack of food or being forcing to travel onto land where they haven’t adapted. Either way the polar bears, as well as other species who live on the ice caps, are struggling to survive without their natural habitat. Global warming is caused by the greenhouse gases that we create, they allow the radiation from the Sun to reach Earth, but they make it difficult for radiation to release back into space, similar to a thermal blanket. As I said polar bears, as well as many other species, rely on the ice caps for survival, as if the Earth continues to get “hotter” then the ice caps will continue to melt, decreasing the amount of land the polar bears have to live on. Francis Duggan then goes to say that our economy is built on nature and if nature is dying then our economy will die as well, and he couldn’t be more right. Many of the materials we use to create simple things, like clothes, foods, etc., come from the natural environment, and if we continue to destroy the environment, we lose more and more resources that we need to survive. He also points out that we seem to show more concern for our economy than our environment, which is ironic, considering our economy relies on the environment.
