The Larsen Research Group focuses on the molecular design of polymeric materials.
Our group approaches problems in polymer science from the standpoint of molecular structure: that is, how do the molecular components of a polymer affect its properties and enable new applications? The interplay of these three factors guides our work, as each impacts the others. By taking advantage of unique molecular structures, new properties can be unlocked and polymers can be tailored for specific applications. Alternately, starting from a desired material profile, molecular alterations can enhance the efficacy of a desired function or change bulk properties entirely. By taking advantage of the synthetic toolbox of organic chemistry that has been developed over the past several hundred years, we create new polymeric materials as well as modify existing ones with the goal of addressing broader problems and challenges in chemistry and society.
