Where do the Comics Become Reality?

The Women of the Marvel Cinematic UniverseBANG! POW! POP! – The dispute for gender equality is almost never ending like a war from your favorite comic, but does it have to be? What research have we done to uncover the truth about our favorite heroines’ screen time? Can we make a difference to this developing plot?

The question we asked was how well women characters in Marvel were represented as well as whether the quality of representation has changed from the earliest to the latest marvel films. My partner and I decided to explore this topic because we share a love for Marvel comics and a love for equality that everyone can share. Some people may shrug the lack of female characters because “There aren’t enough female characters in the Marvel universe so why express them” or by saying “It’s just a movie, the genders shouldn’t matter when we have a main plot in hand!”  Although as Marvel stands after ten years of collaborative movies, this may seem a bit out of place for women to take over the screen time, but we both agree that the time shared in the films should be equal. As we combed through the hard evidence and devised our own forms of research, we quickly realized that this topic could shine a new light to the way people see gender representation. We also hoped that the general public would look further into other popular chain movies and ask the same questions.
