Conclusion

According to the data that we have gathered, people’s perceptions on the legitimacy of movies portrayal of mental illness is widely universal on this campus, believing that movies that fall under the genre of drama or action such as Split or 13 Reasons Why don’t accurately portray the mental illness and that they dramatize the symptoms of the mental illness while movies that are more biographical such as Still Alice or A Beautiful Mind portray mental illness in a respectful and more realistic way. In doing the interviews, we had been able to identify the different preconceived notions that people have regarding the effects of mental illness and how those preconceived notions affect how they perceive how different movies if they were effective in portraying their respected mental illness.
