Welcome to the Metro Art Access: NYC 2016

This course was inspired by a student professional development field trip to New York and Baltimore in 2014. After struggling to raise funds, and with the generous support from the Department of Art and Dean’s Office, 12 Western students were able to travel to the East Coast. While there, we witnessed an amazing transformation as students were awestruck by all that NYC has to offer. From MoMa to the International Center of Photography, and even simply walking down the streets of NYC, everyone was taken by the city.

Finally, after years of discussion and planning, in the summer of 2015, we established “Metro Art Access: NYC” and took another 12 students to the Big City. We had pre-sessions on-campus before leaving and students did preliminary research about a specific institution. Then, while on the ground, after having researched an artist, the students presented in front of/next to the selected artists’ work in NYC. The course was an enormous success and we are so pleased to offer it again in the summer of 2016.
