Why Technology and Loneliness?

Choosing a project and topic to research was important because it would be a topic to be pursuing for a prolonged period of time. Technology is an undeniable influence in the world today and especially in a college environment. Everyday students rekey on technology for communication, school, work, and entertainment. Technology is such a large part of everyones life that its effects are endless. Recent generations are the firsts to come into a world where instantaneously can connect and learn constantly through technological resources. Many speculations of this constant connection to our phones and computers have hypothesized effects on social aspects of ones life. Going into this project the goal was to discover to what extent technology had a role in preventing sociability in college students. In the end, it was learned that the physical act of using technology was not the cause of any perceived loneliness. through surveys it was discoed that the content viewed though technology connections gave a false sense of loneliness. Social media is a known culprit of inciting thoughts of comparison.  Through surveys people reflected on their level of sociability and the majority of students felt they had friends to turn to for support and company and often times are not on their phones when with their friends. In the end, physically being on technology does not impair social connection.
