Data Gathering

We included with our research a survey to understand public opinion on this topic, but found that it targeted a limited demographic, due to our limitations in getting responses to the survey. However, we found it important to prioritize scholarly articles and primary sources.

First, scholarly writing which has been peer reviewed, is considered very credible and respectable. The information provided in scholarly writing is less likely to be challenged by the reader, and is thus effective in providing an argument. Conversely, if the piece is presenting data and not an argument, the data is more likely to be accurate.

The primary sources are websites and occasionally, tweets, that directly address the topic. They are clear in their stances. They can also be used for direct quotations to analyze. For example, the NAF uses scientific language, while the Pro-Life Action League tells an emotional story. These can be compared and contrasted, and looked at next to public opinion.
