ART 397H from 7/10/19 – 08/18/19

Dana Ollestad is teaching Beginning Photo and Image culture this summer at WWU.

This class has been recurring in the summers, and culminates in a collaborative print book of student work created over the course of the class. Learn the principles of manual digital photography, against the backdrop of understanding the flood of images we encounter every day, resulting in a deeper awareness of where these images come from, how they are made, and the way they are used to shape contemporary society around us. DSLR or manual camera app required. Internet access required.

Dana Ollestad is a multi-media artist and curator currently based in Richmond, Virginia. His work presents seemingly simple gestures that facilitate experience and encounter, using the participation of the audience to create open-ended structures that may be influenced, but never fully controlled. He is a recipient of a VMFA Professional grant, a co-organizer for the Studio Two Three Film and Video Series, and the instructor for a community Super 8mm film making workshop.
