THEMATIC PROJECT: BIGGER LUMENS PRINTS
This project utilizes light-sensitive RC paper sent to students as part of the materials for the class. Using the 8×10 sheets of paper, students are asked to make photogram Lumens prints. Collecting objects that are lacy, translucent, and textured, each student created their compositions that are not only formally provocative but engaging conceptually. One of the most attractive features of this process, is it requires absolutely no chemistry – Perfect for introducing a physical component to an otherwise virtual class.
After having participated in an online workshop with Alaska artist, J. Jason Lazarus (http://obscura-works.com/index.php/about/), students were motivated and excited to create large lumen prints of their own. Meeting with professional artists of this caliber from around the world, serves as an essential ingredient in a small photography program. J. Jason not only walked students through the process but shared his work with students.
