Yan Wang is a current student double majoring in the Art Studio and Design program at Western Washington University. Studying and exploring different fields help shape her visual language. Her focus is to document what we are experiencing at present as a photographer and designer.
The exhibition “Murmurs” is available September 25 – October 8 at B_Gallery.
The photographs made for the exhibition are from a pinhole camera which is manually transformed from a normal digital camera. The principles of the pinhole camera are the foundation of photography today since cameras evolved from it. It is known as camera obscura whose history can be traced back to the 5th century BCE. The body of work is also characterized by combining the high-resolution quality of the digital camera and the blurry effect of the pinhole camera without using the viewfinder. Murmurs, the title of the show, places nature’s voices murmuring in the background of the pandemic into the spotlight and reminds people of the precious things that still give us warmth and hope.
