Pareidolia honors retiring faculty member, Professor Barbara L. Miller. The exhibition showcases recent work that Dr. Miller has crated in collaboration with the artist Dimitri Katsaros, whom she has worked with since 2005.

“The title of our show, Pareidolia, takes its name from the phenomenon of finding patterns in chaos or ambiguous stimuli. Whether it’s seeing fantastic creatures in cloud formations or a face in the moon, pareidolia can refers to our ability to discern meaningful images where none exist. However, for us, pareidolia has become more than a perceptual trick. It has become a metaphor for our artistic practice, which involves searching for patterns and connections in the interplay between light and dark. In essence, our work explores the liminal spaces where opposites merge and give rise to something new.”

Lunacy (2019-23)

Having gone to the gallery, it was nice to see the various works and explore my mind and experience the thoughts or feelings that came from viewing each work. Whether remembering the nights of the full moons, imagining myself exploring the location in the photos, or even letting my mind wander.
