Deadline – May 8, 2024

When? – June 10th – August 9th, 2024

There are two paid artist residency currently up-for-grabs for WWU students right now. “The selected students will each receive a $6300 stipend, a $675 food allowance, shared housing, and shared studio space at SPMC.”

BA or BFA students who apply need to be returning in the Fall of 2024, when the show will be going up in the Fine Arts Building B-Gallery. The aim of the show and residency is to communicate to a general audience the relationship between climate change and the marine ecosystem. Students will reside at Shannon Point Marine Center and will will work with researchers and other artists there to create art over the course of a 9-week period.

Students will need a faculty member of art or art history to mentor them weekly during the residency, and applications must include a letter from this mentor, so ask your teachers beforehand (they will also receive a $3000 stipend). You will also need to provide a portfolio of 10 examples of artwork, an unofficial transcript, and a one page project proposal. Photography students of the past have created wonderful shows from this artist residency, so photo students are highly encouraged to apply for this wonderful opportunity!
