This January 31st students in ART 371 Black and White Photography II took a field trip to Vancouver, BC to visit some galleries! They explored the Belkin Gallery and the Vancouver Art Gallery, and also met with the UBC graduate studies director and several MFA students. Here are some photos of their trip!
Currently the Belkin Gallery (the art gallery located on the University of British Columbia campus) is showing a collaborated show called Aporia (Notes to a Medium), which uses a mix of mediums to explore “how history, mythology and wishful thinking entwine across media and through mediums”. It features the creative works of Colleen Brown, Azza El Siddique, Dani Gal, Katie Kozak and Lucien Durey, Mark Lewis, Jenine Marsh, Jalal Toufic, and Elizabeth Zvonar. This show will be up until April 14, 2024.
The Vancouver art gallery has multiple shows up right now, which contain painting, textile work and sculpture. You could look into these shows here. There is also an upcoming film screening this February 22 at 7:00 and 8:15 at their Vancity Theatre which will feature four short films that offer perspective on the future of Black and African cinema. The gallery is partnering with the Vancouver International Film Festival for this film screening. You could learn more about each short film and purchase tickets here.
