Human Resources is proud to offer classes each term as part of our ongoing Professional Development service. These trainings provide individuals with concepts and tools that are immediately applicable in the workplace. Here is a quote of thanks from one satisfied customer:
“This new “work flow” strategy should create more clarity around our individual work loads and how they relate to the larger goals of the Center. It’s important to remember that we are real people, hard working and funny and that we are always willing to change how we do things in order to stay real and do our best work. In short, you are our hero!

Earn Certificates of Completion
Western recognizes excellence in the pursuit of professional development through three Certificates of Completion. The Certificates are in the following areas:
Western’s Foundations of Leadership: For the completion of the STAR series of classes, which are mandatory for Western’s supervisors and open to all. This series covers the foundational skills and knowledge required to manage other people here on this campus.
Western’s Excellence in Leadership: This certificate is for individuals who currently have supervisory duties and wish to deepen their leadership competency. Leaders who have completed the Foundations series and who demonstrate additional pursuit of professional development will be awarded Western’s Excellence in Leadership certificate. We recognize that there is more than one path to Excellence in Leadership. Therefore, this certificate is awarded to those who complete a customized learning plan in conjunction with Western’s Professional Development Program.
Western’s Excellence in Pursuit of Professional Development: Western wishes to recognize excellence in the pursuit of professional development by individuals across all roles and in all functions. Western’s Professional Development Program is based on the assumption that we need leadership at all levels, and that leadership is not limited to title or formal authority. Leadership is about inspiring and influencing others towards a shared goal. Some of us do this through leading by example in our technical proficiency. Others do it by supporting and coaching peers. Still others do it by serving as the communication “glue” on their teams, facilitating decision making and helping others work through difference and conflict.
