How an absence is handled depends on whether it is excused or not.
An absence is excused if…
- You let the instructor know in advance OR
- The reason for missing class is an unforeseeable emergency, and you let the instructor know as soon as possible.
For an excused absence, you can make up participation credit:
- Find a source other than the assigned readings that is relevant to the topic currently being discussed in class.
- Prepare a write-up on that source with the following information:
- APA-style citation
- Brief summary of the source (3-4 sentences)
- 2-3 new things you learned from that source
- Submit it within one week from when you return to class after the absence.
You may not make up participation points for unexcused absences.
