What did I love about this week?
There were so many awesome aspects of this week but I’d say the top three things I loved about this week were:
- Wrapping up part II of our Change Leadership project by attending a Mindful Self- Compassion Workshop put on by WWU’s Dr. Edwards.
- Taking what we learned from Johnathan and Rebecca Jackson and applying it to our VP2 project, furthering it’s growth.
- A huge highlight was finally being able to see our VP2 prototype come to life using the program WireframePro’s, MockFlow. It was like all our hard work took on an image and it was amazing to see the payoff.
The list above is just a sample of the good things about this past week but one aspect I want to shed light on is how important our team work as a VP2 group has been. I don’t think I could have asked for a better team. We communicate, we set goals as a team, we share who we are as individuals and there is a lot of respect. This has been a consistent variable of not only my growth in this class but also what it means to be on a team. You have to have a good team, and with like any strong relationship this takes commitment from all sides and a willingness to grow together. We’ve got that 🙂 I mean look at the joy on our faces, a picture says a thousand words.
What resonated with me in the workshop this week?
I’m not going to lie, the jobs to be done workshop (JTBD) threw me for a loop at first. When the Jacksons first showed up as guest speakers I had no idea what to expect. Like truly, I was like a lost lil puppy. I knew that Meg would not just bring on speakers that were anything but amazing and knowledgeable so I held strong through the confusion. About 7 minutes into the lecture aspects of what their career “why’s” started to click.
Once the aspects of their lecture started to click I came to understand the questions they brought up like, “What kind of progress does a person struggle to make,” in regards to the target customers/ target market. The milkshake example which they concluded through their research was that the customer wanted to be ENTERTAINED, that shifted how I thought about discovering a customers struggle. I LOVED that example because it showed me in REAL TIME the value in asking the right questions and not only the right questions but how to get to those questions is KEY. The workshop with our teams/groups moving through the JTBD helped guide me in the right direction. And being able to talk that through with my peers helped a lot.
How might you apply this week’s learnings to your venture?
The biggest takeaway from this week’s learning is focusing on keeping our VP2 project’s focus on making each question we answer, specific and from the customers perspective. Keeping our eye on the experience our customer is seeking. For us it is our FridgeFriend’s (our official brand name!!) app and how we provide an experience for our customer in a way that provides a solution to their struggle.
That has been a huge takeaway for our venture and really propelled us forward this week.
What are our goals this week?
- Finish first MockFlow prototype
- Send out prototype surveys and conduct interviews
- Begin gathering LJV content
What are my personal E1 goals this week?
- Finish part II CL google slide deck
- Wrap up CL project by Thursday
- Go the extra mile for VP2 success
I’ve been reading Trevor Noah’s book, Born A Crime and I found this quote in there that really resonated with how I want to live my life and consequently how I want to show up in the world, especially as a courageous entreprenur. I hope you find meaning in this as well.
Always rooting for your own self discovery journey,
Kristina
I agree so much with JTBD workshop. It really challenged me to try and understand what they were telling me at first.
I liked you process and goals set. I really need to get that organized.
I think the questions you asked when you interviewed me were quite close to their workshop, even though you had not see it yet.
I love this! I really resonate with your quote from Trevor Noah as well, something I am definitely trying to learn. I think a lot of our culture really tries to tell us that success is the opposite of failure, when in reality failing can be part of success. That workshop you went to for CL sounded really interesting! I’m stoked to see your VP2 coming along well, so exciting when the prototype begins to come into fruition and it all starts to turn from idea to reality.
I love hearing about the books and things you are learning, whether that is about yourself or about others. And Trevor Noah is a great person to listen to and hear from. He puts an incredible spin on the perspective we can have on the world. That learning and hearing you always ask for reading recommendations is incredible. I love hearing that!
Also hearing about how powerful your VP2 team makes me feel inspired. You all have done an incredible job of connecting and creating a venture that really has some backbone to it. I am so glad that it has been a good quarter for you.
As for change leadership, after looking through some of it today I am impressed with the work and dedication you have put into it. You are a rock star at keeping up with this! All the work you do is incredible, so keep going!
