Traction Step(ping) + Guest Speaker Panel

“People have to take chances in order to do something extraordinary.”

Priya Parker, The Art of Gathering: How We Meet and Why It Matters
Ugh, I love this community of innovators!!! Our community during last week’s guest speaker panel! #E&I
Arathi Ramappa

During last week’s guest speaker panel I got the chance to ask Arathi Ramappa what her top three pieces of advice she would give on what makes a great coach. Here was what she said:

–1. Good coaching is not about you, it’s about the client. Don’t bring yourself into their story.

–2. Do not lead them in the direction you think they should go. They have the answers within them and your job as a coach is to ask great questions to pull those answers out of them.

–3. Get a coach yourself.

I couldn’t value her response more.

Who did you resonate most with during the panel? Leave your answer in the comments 🙂

Between now and Final Pitches, what traction steps do you need to make?

A list:

  1. Finalized Pitch Deck
  2. Team meeting on Monday 11.22
  3. LJV
  4. Wrap Up

Book Recommendation 🙂

The Art of Gathering: How We Meet and Why It Matters By, Priya Parker

I read Priya Parker’s book about 2 years ago when I was leading weekly workshops and events and I can’t express to you enough how relevant and meaningful her work is. I would highly recommend her book especially if your ventures involve gathering groups of people.

“Why are you having a neighborhood potluck? Because we like potlucks, and we have one every year. Why do you have one every year? Because we like to get our neighbors together at the beginning of the summer. Why do you like to get your neighbors together at the beginning of the summer? I guess, if you really think about it, it’s a way of marking the time and reconnecting after the hectic school year. Aha. And why is that important? Because when we have more time in the summer to be together, it’s when we remember what community is, and it helps us forge the bonds that make this a great place to live. Aha. And safer. Aha. And a place that embodies the values we want our children to grow up with, like that strangers aren’t scary. Aha. Now we’re getting somewhere.”

  1. Arathi’s advice was great! I think it can apply to what I would like to do in the future as well as far as interviewing people. Don’t put myself into the story, don’t lead the people with questions, but let them decide what they want to share and we can always use mentors looking out for us!

  2. Ooo! That book looks really interesting! I’ll have to check that out. And yes, I couldn’t agree more, Arathi Ramappa’s advice was amazing. It definitely helps me reflect what I could work on to become a better coach/leader. Looks like you’re super close to being done with your project! Keep up the good work. You got this!
