League of Women Voters of Bellingham and Whatcom County

During the spring of 2023, as part of my capstone course at Western Washington University, I along with two other students were partnered with The League of Women Voters of Bellingham-Whatcom County to complete a public relations campaign based on the organization’s needs.

After initial assessment, we discovered that the organization was in great need of gaining younger members. With this in mind, my team and I, Brand-Aid, decided to propose our campaign Next Generation, which aimed at growing LWVBW membership demographics and strengthening their ties to the Bellingham and Whatcom community.

After independently conducting research within the community, our survey found that 54% of respondents would be motivated to volunteer if it led to more social connections. Brand-Aid proposed several tactics meant to cultivate long-lasting relationships. These tactics included a student-oriented campus club, Know Your Rights events, Galentine’s luncheon, a student-oriented book club, and new merchandise.

Shortly after my capstone course finished I was hired on as the communication intern. Here I’ve kept working with the league to increase younger membership, content creation and strengthen community ties.

You can view the full proposed campaign booklet here.
