The mayor of Bellingham presents the key to the city to the Grand Dragon during the state KKK convention.

The annual convention of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan of Washington was held in Bellingham in July, 1929. It was attended by at least 300 members from across the state.

At the convention, the Mayor of Bellingham, John A. Kellogg, presented the key to the city to the Grand Dragon from Spokane, E.B Quackenbush.

The mayor also acknowledged that the Bellingham city attorney, Charles B. Sampley, was also a prominent Klansman.
