In coming up with this collage we decided to utilize the “yin-yang” symbol as the background. After reading each other’s literacy narratives we found them to be quite opposite of each other, having one main thing in common. Julia’s literacy narrative focused more on the external world and how what was happening around her sparked her love for reading. Sadie’s literacy narrative focused on more on her internal feelings and how she was pushed to develop her literacy skills. Both of our narratives, however, were based on our family members being our sponsors. Sadie’s being her father and Julia’s being her mother and sister.

Our collage is split so Sadie’s depictions of her narrative are on the left side and Julia’s depictions of her narrative are on the right side. As you can see, Julia’s side focuses more on concrete external aspects like the picture of moving boxes and green grass (summer) while Sadie’s pictures focus on internal aspects like the picture of the heart with arms (depicting “tough love”). “Family” is written in the middle as a heading because this is what connects our two narratives.

Contrast is portrayed in our collage with the “pop” of a variety of colors. The yin yang symbol situated in the middle of our collage depicts contrast connecting all the images. Repetition is shown with multiple images (showing the content of our narratives) surrounding the yin-yang symbol. The collage is divided into two sides with pictures clustered in each side of which the yin-yang symbol (draws the attention) is in the middle This portrays alignment. Proximity is depicted with the large yin-yang symbol in the middle and having images slightly smaller than it on each side.
