We create and support a family of related site designs for different technologies and purposes. All official Western websites must use one of these templates. For WordPress we provide the “WWU Genesis” theme. For Drupal the theme is automatically provided for you. For HTML site there are two choices and these are discussed below.

Classic Western Template for HTML Sites
The standard template for use at Western is the Classic Western Template. This can be used for personal or department sites and is clearly Western branded. This template requires Adobe Dreamweaver.
Pages done with this template can have a custom banner at the top of the page with their unit name on it. Examples of these sites include:
Advanced users that have access to Dreamweaver CC 2015 or later also have free access to the Responsive Western Template. This template is also clearly Western branded but works better for mobile and tablet users than the Classic Template. To see why, go to one of the sites listed below and drag your browser width narrower while viewing this page. As you get close to phone-screen width you’ll see the display switch to a one-column view with mobile-compatible menu buttons. This is the earmark of a “responsive” site – the design is adapted to the size of the browser window. Some examples of this template include:
Like the Classic Western Template, the Responsive Template provides four layouts in desktop view (which collapse to few columns in narrower views):
- Full-Content: provides about 740px wide main content area.
- Sidebar: provides a main content area about 470px wide and a right sidebar about 250px wide.
- Two-Column: provides an optional full-width top and bottom area and two equal columns of about 350px.
- Three-Column: provides an optional full-width top and bottom area and three equal columns of about 225px.
