Tai Chi Class Description:
T’ai Chi Ch’uan is an Internal Style Martial Art that is not only practiced for self-defense but for health, meditation, stress reduction, joint health, balance and longevity. It is an exercise designed increase the body’s internal energy of “Chi” or life force. It is what Chinese herbal medicine and acupuncture are based upon, regulating the flow of Chi in the body.
The martial arts applications of Tai Chi are not aggressive or forceful but by controlling the energy of our own bodies we can blend with and control any energy that is used against us. It was designed to control the more forceful fighting styles by developing soft energy and yielding.
Tai Chi is also an art of expanding our spiritual awareness and is based on the Taoist philosophy. I invite each individual who is interested in joining this class to do so with an open mind and to set the intention of what exactly it is, each wants to gain from this art, be creative and shoot high. My students generally find that the gains go way beyond their initial expectations.
What Will Be Covered: Learning the movements of the Yang Style Tai Chi Ch’uan Form. Two person exercises to practice the intention of the movements and to gain personal power, flexibility and yielding.
What To Wear: Comfortable, non-restrictive clothing. T-shirts are fine. Sneakers with a non-knobby sole, such as tennis or basketball sneakers, or Tai Chi Slippers.
