New Zealand: Post Program Reflection by Emily Webster

Takeaways and Final Reflection

As I have said over and over again, I truly feel so grateful to have had such an amazing opportunity. I remember sitting in the advisors office over two years ago talking about my upcoming schedule and the future student teaching requirement. On a whim she mentioned the option to complete the student teaching requirement abroad. There had only been 2-3 students who had done so in the past so I really didn’t know what to expect. I turned the idea over and over in my mind and talked to friends and family who I knew had my best interests in mind. Once I came to the decision to go, I was excited! I was still nervous and knew it would be challenging but I also knew that if I didn’t take this opportunity I would regret it for the rest of my life.

Now that I’ve returned, it’s time to start to wrap up this blog. I have enjoyed sharing my adventure with those who followed along. The next two posts are requirements for the travel writing program, but they also offer a valuable opportunity for me to reflect on the last four months and begin to think about the next four months and what they have in store for me.

New Zealand: Internship: Arrival by Emily Webster

I ’m starting to get settled into Northcote College. Here’s what’s been going on!

During the week before school started, I attended a new staff meeting and an all staff meeting. I am very happy to be starting my internship at the beginning of their school year. It has helped me feel more integrated and I’ve gotten to be a part of events that I otherwise wouldn’t have been able to. I set up my schedule and which classes I’ll be working with for the term. I get to work with three different teachers for a variety of subjects:

South Korea: Internship: Pre-Departure by Tara May

I write this post as I wait in the airport (SeaTac Airport, that is) – I think it’s funny that everyone recommends showing up three hours before an international flight, just to ultimately wait two and a half hours until you can actually board and leave.

Thailand: “Internship Final Essay” by Spiridon Pappas

Internship Final Essay

The First of Many

As this semester abroad approaches the final curtain call, I look back and reflect on the 97 hours I spent at my internship with great fondness. It was an honor to have been placed in an internship here at the Doi Suthep-Pui National Park Headquarters. Throughout the duration of the semester, this internship opportunity consistently enabled me to grow in personal, professional, and academic respects.

Internship Mid-Term Essay

The First Foreigner

If someone had asked me at the beginning of the USAC semester abroad, “what would be your ideal internship?” “If you could create the perfect internship for yourself, what would it be?” “Try to think of a place you would like to intern at, and picture yourself there. What does it look like?”

It would look like this position.

Thailand: Internship: Pre-Departure: “So Much to Do, So Little Time” by Alexandra Rose

I landed in Seattle only a month ago, and today I started packing to leave again on Friday. It has been a whirlwind of just over thirty days. Landing the night before Thanksgiving after almost three months in Madagascar with Stony Brook University‘s biodiversity and culture study abroad program, I have just begun adjusting to the cold and rain here in the Pacific Northwest. After four weeks of unpacking, writing a research paper, catching up with friends at holiday parties, and spending time with my family, it is time for my next adventure!

Estonia: Internship: A Day In The Life: “Interning, Learning, & Growing” by Dong Dinh

Interning, Learning, and Growing

I finally started my internship at EducationUSA and have been working about 30-40 hours a week. So far the job has been busy but slow. Busy as in I am meeting new people, visiting new places, working on presentations to give to highschool, college, and elementary school students, and going into the mindset that I am the representative of the United States. It scares me a little because I will be one of the few U.S persons that students get to talk and interact with professionally and casually. Since I am a native speaker of English, my colleague has been emailing schools around Estonia to see if they would want me to come and do a presentation about the US educational system and about US culture. I can say that in the next couple of months, I will be exploring new towns, cities and places all around Estonia!
