Below, you will find common Zoom-related information. The links will take you to Zoom’s own tutorials and documentation.
General Meeting Controls (mute audio/camera, record, and other controls)
A quick tutorial going over the most commonly used Zoom features for hosts.
Mute Attendees
Often times, attendees will turn their microphones on when they join a meeting. If you or another individual are presenting content, it can be helpful to mute all of your participants so that there isn’t any audio interference or distractions during the Zoom session.
Share Your Screen
If you need to share an application or PowerPoint that you have open on your screen, you can follow the steps outlined in this tutorial to make various items on your screen visible to others.
Using the Chat
Zoom chat can help facilitate questions among participants and the presenter during a video conferencing session.
Raising Hands, Nonverbal Feedback & Reactions
A virtual raised hand can signal a question by one of your participants, especially if they are muted. You can also use feedback and reactions to take a quick poll of your students and to give students another way to engage with the class.
Breakout Rooms
If you need students to work in teams while holding a Zoom meeting session, you can create Breakout Rooms that give them a separate meeting area to work together and then bring the rest of the class back together. There are some limitations of Breakout Rooms (for instance, they cannot see you as an entire class, but you can drop in on various groups while they are meeting or share out audio or messages to the rooms).
Join Conference Via Phone
If individuals have poor quality microphones, no microphones, or perhaps no access to internet and still need to join the meeting, they can call into the Zoom conference.
Test Your Zoom Meeting and Settings
Before joining or holding a Zoom meeting, be sure to test your Zoom setup. This will allow you to test your microphone and camera.
Adjusting Webcam and Microphone
If you are having difficulty using your microphone or webcam, this tutorial will help you fine tune those settings. If you continue to experience issues setting up your devices to work properly with Zoom, you may need to do additional troubleshooting with your computer’s-specific settings.
Securing Your Meeting
Concerned about security and privacy in your class sessions? You can increase the security settings in your Zoom meetings. Be aware that this will sometimes limit the ease of access for your students and create additional layers for you to navigate in order to allow others to share content or participate in certain ways. Be sure to test all of your features after changing these settings so that you are able to maneuver during class time.
