Template Alternative Homepages

Built into the WesternOnline Template is the option to choose which pre-built homepage best suits your course. This page will help you see the options and will give you instructions on how to implement those options.

The default homepage will be displayed if you click “Home” in your Canvas course with the template. You will also find this page if you click “Pages” in the left navigation bar in Canvas. It includes buttons similar to those listed here, depending on the version of the template you are accessing.

Default Template Homepage

If you would like to explore alternatives to the default homepage, you can follow these written instructions or you can check out the short video tutorial on this subject: WesternOnline Template- Alternative Homepages.

Instructions: Click “View All Pages” after clicking “Pages” on your left navigation bar. You will see a list of all the pages which were included with the template. This includes several versions of the homepage. These versions were designed with various combinations of the navigation buttons created for the homepage, and you can look them to determine which fits your needs. Consider which links your students will find helpful to have easily accessible to them and choose a homepage that includes those without other extra buttons.

After you have decided which version will work best for you, you should return to your “View All Pages” list in your Canvas course. Next to the name of the Homepage of your choosing, all the way to the right, click on the 3 dots. Choose “Use as Front Page” then click the 3 dots again to choose “Edit”. In the box that opens up, you can change the Title of the page to “Home.”
