Today the House College and Workforce Development Committee held a public hearing on House Bill 1755, which would authorize the boards of trustees at Western, Eastern and Central to offer applied doctorate degrees in education (Ed.Ds).
Dr. Tim Bruce and Dr. Don Larsen from the Woodring College of Education testified on behalf of Western in support of the bill. Bruce and Larsen told committee members that an Ed.D. program would expand on WWU’s existing superintendent’s certification program, giving school leaders an opportunity to dig deeper into the methodology, research, collaborative investigation and evidence necessary to help drive educational change and school improvement. They also testified that an Ed.D. program is needed in the North Puget Sound region of the state for superintendents and other education administrators who are unable to travel to existing programs in Seattle, Vancouver and Spokane.
