Today is the 47th day of the 105-day 2019 Legislative Session. We have reached a milestone in the 2019 Legislative session; today is the fiscal committee cut-off, which means if a bill has not passed out of any committee, policy or fiscal, it is no longer viable for legislative consideration this session.
Western is tracking nearly 200 bills so far this session. Here are a few of those bills that are still moving through the legislative process after today’s cut-off.
- HB 1079 – adding a faculty member to the board of regents at the research universities
- HB 1340 & SB 5393 – State Need Grant /Washington College Promise Scholarship
- SSB 5166 – requiring postsecondary institutions to accommodate students with sincerely held religious beliefs, when those beliefs impact exam performance, course performance and academic program degree completion
- SSB 5410 – college credit policy for AP & IB & CI exams
Our next legislative milestone is Wednesday, March 13th, which is House of Origin cut-off, meaning if a bill does not pass off its original chamber’s floor by then it will be considered dead.
The House and Senate are expected to each release their respective budgets soon after the March 20th revenue forecast.
