This weekend 15 WWU students majoring in political science traveled to Olympia for a firsthand look at state government in action during the Ralph Munro Institute for Civic Education “Day on the Hill.” The students, along with the Institute’s Director, Dr. Vernon Johnson, and Dr. Kate Destler, Assistant Professor of Political Science, joined Former Secretary of State and WWU alumnus Ralph Munro for two days of action-packed meetings with state government leaders.
Guests of the Munro Institute “Day on the Hill” included Lieutenant Governor Cyrus Habib, Washington State Supreme Court Chief Justice Debra Stephens and Associate Justice Raquel Montoya-Lewis, State Senators John McCoy and Keith Wagoner, State Representatives Luanne Van Werven and Sharon Shewmake and Assistant Secretary of State Mark Neary. The event also featured a behind the scenes tour of the Washington State Senate chambers from Secretary of the Senate and WWU alumnus Brad Hendrickson, as well as an inside look into TVW—Washington’s Public Affairs Network—from TVW President and CEO, Renee Radcliff Sinclair.
