The 2016-17 academic year kicked off on September 21 and WWU proudly welcomed the largest freshman class and most diverse student body in the university’s history.
Western welcomed 2,888 freshman students last month – up from 2,809 in 2015 – and an additional 1,141 new undergraduate transfer students. Of Western’s incoming freshman, 31.5 percent are first generation students, meaning they are the first from their families to attend college, and 45 percent of new transfer students are first generation students. Western’s total fall enrollment is 15,574 students – up from 15,332 in 2015 – with more than 88 percent of students being in-state residents and more than 25 percent being students of color for the first time in Western’s history.
