This afternoon, the Senate honored WWU’s Women’s Soccer team for their 2016 championship season. Senate Resolution 8657 – sponsored by Senator Kevin Ranker, whose legislative district includes Western – applauded the team for winning the first-ever NCAA Division II National Championship in program history. Head Coach Travis Connell and players were in attendance in Olympia for the occasion, which included recognition by Lieutenant Governor Cyrus Habib and congratulatory remarks from Senators Ranker, Bailey, Darneille, Baumgartner and Takko. Western’s Women’s Soccer had an undefeated season and won the national title by defeating three-time defending champion Grand Valley State from Michigan in the championship game.
