Western welcomed 3,114 freshmen students and 1,181 new undergraduate transfer students this fall quarter, making it the largest entering class in WWU history. More than 30 percent of new freshmen and 45 percent of transfer students are first generation students, meaning they are the first from their families to attend college. Approximately 70 percent of new transfer students transfer directly from a state community college, and overall more than 87 percent of all Western students are Washington residents.
