Western’s Career Services Center released new employment survey data this summer showing how WWU’s 2015-16 graduates are faring in the job market. Data was collected from 45% of the 3,280 students who received bachelor’s degrees, 75% of the 329 students who received master’s degrees and 74% of the 261 students who earned teacher certification.
The report indicates that the employment rate for Master’s degree recipients was 93.3%, an increase from last year’s report, and the employment rate for recipients of teaching certificates was 96.5%, with more than 80% of teaching certificate recipients employed in public schools in Washington State. The employment rate for Bachelor’s degree recipients was 83.1%, with a 2% increase from last year in field-related employment.
The report makes clear that Western continues to be a strong source of talent for employers throughout the state and that Western graduates are vital to local economies. Top employers of Bachelor’s degree recipients include Peace Health St. Joseph Medical Center, Amazon, Boeing, Starbucks, and Microsoft. The report also indicates that Western provides a quality foundation in STEM fields and that many STEM students go on to further their education. More than 40% of Bachelor’s degree recipients in the disciplines of Behavioral Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Kinesiology/Pre-Physical Therapy, and Physics pursued advanced training after graduation.
